Every time I get something out of the refrigerator, I leave the door wide open.
I think, in my mind, I just know I'm going to have to open it again to put that thing back.
and I also think that I'm going to be really quick with that thing.
but it always ends up taking longer than I thought.
and i turn around to see the refrigerator door wide open behind me.
I've done it all my life.
my father used to get very frustrated with this little quirk of mine.
but i still do it.
don't tell me i'm wasting energy and killing the environment.
because i already know that.
(we won't even talk about how i leave the water running while i brush my teeth, or how i buy water bottles by the case at costco and drink like 4 a day and don't even recycle, or how i don't take my own reusable bag to the grocery store and instead double up on the plastic sacks so they make it home on my long walk without ripping.)
I'm not telling you this because i'm proud.
its a sad fact, really.
so maybe i'll do better.
starting with my water bottle that i'm drinking right now.

My new fridge has an ALARM for when you leave the doors open too long. It's the most annoying thing when you are putting groceries away!

omg.i do the exact. same. thing.
well, except for the refrigerator door thing. but i always leave the water running, and i never use reusable bags. and as far as the water bottles go?? I drink 4-7 a day. and the closest thing i do to recycling, is filling an empty bottle up with cold water if i don't have a new water bottle near by, or if i do have a new water bottle, but the water in it is like room temperature. (uhm. ew.)

So when we lived in Germany with a family, I would do this same thing- keep the door open while I poured milk or something, and the mom-lady would totally freak out and say, "Americans! You are so wasteful of energy! It's because energy doesn't cost as much as here!"

She also would freak out when I put warm leftovers back in the fridge because it would waste the fridge's energy to cool it down. So we had to wait for all food to be at room temperature (a few hours) before putting it back in the fridge. Crazy (yet kinda makes sense)

I shut the fridge door....if Neal is home and I open it, sit something down on the counter, turn around to get the next thing out....Neal has shut the door already!!!! Drives me nuts! I use to recycle in Orem because they offered that to us, not here in Moroni...so I don't recycle anymore and I actually feel bad about it. I was getting very good at it and it made me feel like I was a "good community helper" by doing that. Now I guess I'm "bad."

John leaves the cupboards open... ALL. THE. TIME.

...I'm perfect. (minus the fact that I leave empty wrappers on the cupboard, forget to put the lid back on my hair wax product, never make the bed, never do the dishes, pile things up on the kitchen counter where the world can see it... I'm going to stop. I suddenly realizing that I'm not perfect at all.)

I need to be better at that too. Recycling always seems like too much work. My sister and BIL are very good at recycling and give me a hard time every time they come over:)

You forgot to mention that we used to crank up the oven and put our feet in it to keep warm :)

HAHA...I love that all of us are pretty much the same.. I leave the freezer open when I refill my ice trays. AND Rhett used to leave the cupboards open until I bugged him about it.. I kept hitting my head on them!

I'm a total stiffler about leaving the fridge open. Got it from my dad. And I have an obsession with recycling. I think it's fun!

Oh, and by the way... where did you find your super cute background?

I refuse to drink water out of the tap because in Eagle Mountain the water doesn't taste too good. And instead of buying a water filter, we buy water bottle's by the case... and we don't recycle them either. Between Curtis and I we go through at least 5 a day, AT LEAST.

This post sounds exactly like me! I leave the water running while I brush my teeth, I use plastic bags (sometimes doubled) and we drink bottled water and don't recycle either. (Sigh) OH well! :)

I actually do this same this quite often!!! Preston always tells me that I left the fridge open and need to shut it... but it just saves a step!

We recycle everything. You should try it--honestly, it feels wonderful. Have you seen the handbags we make from recycled grocery bags?
go to: greenwinkle.etsy.com and you'll see them. Cute if I do say so myself.

heh, heh

I always feel like my tiny little part that I am doing won't really make a difference in the world but then I have to remember that if everyone thought the same way I was thinking, the world would be a lot worse than it is, so I turn lights off and try to conserve.

I'm in love with recycling... I'm a hippie tree-hugger at heart I suppose! :) My in-laws drink lots of soda and bottled water and we sometimes they'll bag the empties up for us so we can take them home to one of our TWO recycling bins! I think it's easiest because we don't have to sort the items here. Paper, plastic, metal... in it all goes! :) I like being greenish. But I still like you, so don't worry! :D
