2 years

(june 28, 2010 on our front stoop in boston)

funny that i'm posting about our 2 year anniversary....
when we will be celebrating 3 years in just 5 months.
oh well.
i'm mostly telling you about it because the place we ate was awesome.
actually...
all we did on our anniversary is go to lunch because wade had school that day.
the restaurant is called fire and ice.
its basically like a big salad bar/buffet where you choose all your own meats/pastas/sauces/vegetables and you throw them all in a bowl and you give it to the chef and he cooks it on this big rotating grill right in front of you.
we loved it.

(holga. rockport, ma)

i feel like someone took everything i own, messed it all around, threw it in some boxes and shoved it in my parent's garage.
actually...
someone did.
and it still hasn't been unpacked. why? because we don't know how long we are staying at my parent's. and so it seems silly to unpack.  and so every day, i venture into the garage, looking for some random item that i happen to need, only it's nowhere to be found, because surprise, we weren't exactly organized when we packed up all our stuff.  in fact, i think we were so excited to get out of the apartment, that we just grabbed everything in sight and stuffed it into a truck. and if i recall, i think i may have said something to the effect of, "good riddance, apartment."
and it's okay if you're starting to think i'm bipolar, because really i might be. someday's i love boston, and other days i walk outside and see those glorious mountains towering over me and i take a deep breath and it doesn't smell like garbage and i hate it all over again.  so yes. i will be bipolar and you can just get over it or stop reading my blog because probably every other post will go like this:
i hate boston.
oh wait, today...
i miss boston.
and really, nothing else goes on in my head except that, and work, and photography sessions, and stopping miles from falling down the stairs, or eating the door stops off the back of the door, or crunching ritz crackers and throwing them all over the floor. and quite frankly, my life has become quite boring. and i think i'm finally getting to the point of why i don't blog anymore.  but if you know me at all, you'll know that it usually takes me this long to make a point because it usually includes a lot of boring background information. and what was the point again? oh yes, i don't blog anymore. and why? apparently because all my stuff is in boxes and for some reason that hinders my ability to type on a keyboard.

also, my giveaway ends tomorrow, so if you want free pictures then you sure as heck better hurry up and enter!

oh and one more thing!!
who are you englewood, colorado??
yes, i have a tracker, and yes, i see you...
and i don't mind one bit if you want to read my blog 7 times a day,
but i do mind if you are a creeper.
and thusly, i will have to make my blog private if you don't fess up.
(i am aware that i just made up a word. but thusly seems to fit at the moment.)
so if you are a friendly sort of person, can you just please email me? kaliandwade @ gmail . com
i promise not to submit you to public humiliation.
i will just feel relief that you aren't plotting to kidnap my baby and carry on my merry blogging way.
loves!
kali

a few things

(holga. taken at crane beach)

my red snow cone collided with my tan seats in my new (well....new to me) car this week and i'm still upset about it.

i saved a couple of rolls of holga film to be developed here in utah because the last time i developed it in boston, it cost me $13 for one roll and i was not happy about it. i got 2 developed today for $6. take that, boston.

speaking of boston.
dear boston,
sometimes i miss you and sometimes it makes my heart hurt a little.
and then i tell wade and he says,
"are you kidding?!" and reminds of all the reasons why i don't miss you.

today wade and i had an argument at the one and only d.i. over whether or not dr. martens are still cool.  i told him they reminded me of the 90's and he said he didn't care because they last forever and he would rather be comfortable. and i said no they are ugly and i would rather be cool. and so, the dr. martens stayed at d.i. and i felt like a mean wife and my mom said she was zipping her lips on the matter (but i'm almost certain she would have taken wade's side).

i decided to buy miles a swimming pool to put in the backyard.  walmart was sold out of little baby pools because apparently, its hot outside or something? anyway, shopko came to the rescue and i paid 5.99 for a little blow up pool. well, it looked little in the picture. we came home and blew it up and now its taking up the whole living room.

a few more things:
i love the rain.
i love that the rain doesn't make me instantly sweat in the form of humidity.
i love the smell of wet concrete.
i love the sunset at wade's parent's house.
i love the mountains.
i love the cool evenings.
its good to be home.
but i will always be divided.
in the words of my favorite, andrew mcmahon:

"i met a girl who kept tattoos for
homes that she had loved.
if i were here, i'd paint my body til
all my skin was gone."
-something corporate
"i woke up in a car"

and it's too bad i'm not that girl and that i don't get tattoos, because if i was that girl and i did get tattoos, i think i would probably have about 11 by now.

the birthday boy

turns 27!
wade had class tonight (and a test! blah), so i had to put my thinking cap on and figure out how to celebrate his birthday during the day. i surprised him with a little kayaking trip on the charles river. aside from the time we almost got rammed into by, not one, but two sailboats being steered by 10 year olds, and that our shoulders got quite the workout, we had a good time. that being said, we only lasted about an hour and we decided we were done. the city was pretty and the weather was perfect!

we then went to lunch at california pizza kitchen and were serenaded by this lovely bunch (who couldn't remember wade's name, and therefore called him "guy"?):

after wade came home from class, we opened presents and he blew out his candles. only 7 of them...because, well, lets be honest, i didn't feel like frosting 27 cupcakes.

happy birthday husby!

the cops in boston do

for some reason, the city of boston finds it necessary to have a policeman (or several) standing at each construction/road work site. and i have never seen them do anything but:
a) talk to the other policemen
b) talk to the construction workers or
c) talk to the pedestrians.
in my humble opinion, it's an awesome use of tax dollars... especially when its (b).

**just out of curiosity (and also because i'm a nerd) i googled again.
in 2003, these police were paid 34.70 an hour! i would love to stand in the middle of the road and make that kind of money. and this is sort of funny:
"...Massachusetts had the highest rate of accidents causing property damage and the second highest rate of accidents causing bodily injury between 1980 and 2000, though it is the only state where cities and towns routinely require police supervision at road construction sites."

graduation

wade "graduated" on friday!
it doesn't really feel like he graduated yet...
because he still has 2 more summer classes to finish this month.
he still got to walk early though.
and ever since miles was born,
wade has talked about walking with him across the stage.
it was a proud moment for him.
and miles is probably the youngest person to ever receive his master's degree.
we are so proud of wade and all his hard work!

p.s. wade would now like to be referred to as "master wade"

cooper on cooper st.

when we first found our apartment in the north end, we walked past this sign and i got so excited.  a cooper street! and my brother's name is cooper! he just so happened to be on his mission in pennsylvania while i was living there. but i walked past that street almost everyday and thought of him everytime. and i was so excited for the day that he would come visit me and get to see his street.  so this my friends, was a dream come true.  (i know, i know. i have silly dreams.)

5.14.2010

look who came to visit!

 boston harbor

we've spent the week hangin' with mr. cooper and his lovely girlfriend, miss brittany.
so happy they were here.
{miles has a serious crush on brittany.
he stares at her all day.
and stops crying whenever he looks at her.}
we had many adventures, which i will be sure to post.
but i think their tired feet and sore calves are glad to be back in utah,
where i'm not there to walk them into the ground.
{boston is called the walking city...
but i'll admit, it took me a year to get used to it.
what am i saying?! i'll never get used to it.
and i don't have to. because guess who just reserved a moving truck today.
did you guess me? because that would be right.}

5.12.2010

can you blame us?

 (date night in cambridge, ma)

remember that time we got towed twice in a week...
along with 3 whoppin' tickets to go with it?
just go ahead and try to figure out those signs.
{don't worry. we haven't been towed since.
we have learned to read these signs very carefully.
and when in doubt, we don't park there.}

5.02.2010

when was the last time you bathed in pond water...

in your own bathroom?
boston's main water line busted,
affecting 30 communities and
leaving 2 million people without water.
clean water, that is.
you see, they are pumping water in from reservoirs.
pond water.
coming through our taps.
we have to boil everything.
i can't even bathe my baby unless i boil the water.
never mind that i already fed him 2 bottles made with that water
before i even knew we were supposed to boil it.
{now i'm supposed to watch out for vomiting and diarrhea. fabulous}
all the grocery stores are cleaned out.
you can't get water anywhere.
{we have 4 gallons of water we've been storing under our bed for 2 years. wahoo!}
and don't even think about buying plastic utensils
because those are gone too.
i just attempted to do the dishes,
but got a little overwhelmed by boiling the wash water,
and then boiling the rinse water.
{that's a lot of water}
and i gave up.

we are eating out for the next week.
