reminders

Its funny how sometimes your prayers are answered in the smallest and most interesting ways. I seem to ask for answers when there are deadlines approaching...aka picking a major right before I'm supposed to register for classes. So I've been debating this elementary education thing for a long time now. There are a lot of things that intimidate me about the idea of managing an entire classroom of little rascals by myself. Well tonight, on a random whim, I went and got my nails done. Stress calls for a little pampering, no? I ended up meeting an old lady who had just gotten back from Africa about some schools she had visited while she was there. We reminisced about all the amazing things we had both seen and learned while we were there. It got me to thinking about why I ever even thought about elementary education in the first place. Those kids in Kenya changed my life and I realized that the only way I could ever truly help was to provide them with an education. I don't know what my future holds or if I'll ever get to go back and teach school there. But that is my ultimate goal and I hope to one day accomplish it. With that in mind, I will trudge along through this major. Even if it means I have to face a few fears along the way. I'm very grateful for random people who are put in our lives on purpose.

did you know?

Hollister's pants say "nature's calling" on the inside flap of the zipper.

ba ha ha ha ha ha.

I find that so humorous.

regina rocks.

This is me and Jana cheesin' it and so stinking excited to see the one and only Regina Spektor.

That woman is seriously insane. In case you are unaware of her interesting singing style...she's the one who sings about her broken "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hearrrrt!" Call me crazy, but I love her for it. She came out wearing bright orange eye shadow and a sequined silver dress. She made lots of weird noises and facial expressions. Oh - and she used a chair and drum stick as an instrument while she played the piano with her other hand. wow.

Good friends and good music. I think that's pretty much all I need.

"And people make you nervous
You'd think the world is ending,
And everybody's features have somehow started blending
And everything is plastic,
And everyone's sarcastic,
And all your food is frozen,
It needs to be defrosted.

Well maybe you should just drink a lot less coffee,
And never ever watch the ten o'clock news,
Maybe you should kiss someone nice,
Or lick a rock,
Or both.

Maybe you should cut your own hair
'Cause that can be so funny
It doesn't cost any money
And it always grows back
Hair grows even after you're dead

And people are just people,
They shouldn't make you nervous.
The world is everlasting,
It's coming and it's going.
If you don't toss your plastic,
The streets won't be so plastic.
And if you kiss somebody,
Then both of you'll get practice.

The world is everlasting
Put dirtballs in your pocket,
Put dirtballs in your pocket,
And take off both your shoes.
'Cause people are just people,
People are just people,
People are just people like you."

my best

This lady is amazing.
and that's why she is my best friend.
Jenn (aka Viva) puts up with a lot.
I'm a hard person to deal with...but she does it wonderfully.

She steals me LoTs of mints when we go out to eat, even though she doesn't like them.

When there was only a pink bin and a yellow bin left, she automatically gave me pink without me saying a word because she knows I hate yellow.

She cooks me dinner and doesn't care that I just sit there and watch her.

She doesn't make me feel like an idiot when I sleep in and miss classes, even though she probably feels like telling me I'm stinkin' lazy.

She doesn't go home on weekends when I tell her that I don't want to be alone.

She laughs at all my jokes, even (and maybe especially...) when they are absolutely ridiculous.

She remembers EVERYTHING. She's like my walking and talking journal.

Most of all...she has a good heart. Like, deep down, she only wants to make other people happy. and I love her for that.

cute old men

Today I went running and found myself sitting on a bench at the temple feeling a little bummed about this thing they call "life." I wasn't really thinking about anything in particular...just that I was feeling completely overwhelmed with school and some decisions I need to be making soon. The temple grounds were bustling with people coming and going, but no one paying any attention to me just sitting there. Except for a cute old man all by himself who was hunched almost half way over and making his way slowly to his car. He stopped dead in his tracks and said, "Hello!! How are you doing today?" I replied that I was good and asked him how he was doing. He said, "I am doing wonderful! It's a beautiful day!!" and then, "It was so good to see you!!" Now...I don't know if this old man was suffering from Alzheimer's and maybe he thought he knew me, but I prefer to think that he was just a good person trying to make someone's day a little bit better. And you know what? It worked.

I'm beginning to think that that's what life is all about. cute old men.

i miss it

I have a new job. And quite frankly, its lots better than my old job.
This is why I should love Firehouse more than Winger's:
1-I make more money.
2-They have a busser.
3-They have a dishwasher.
4-They have a salad maker.
5-Their mops don't fall apart.
6-They never run out of silverware.
7-They never run out of anything for that matter.
8-They have 2 coke machines.
9-They don't serve popcorn.
10-I don't have to wear a uniform that makes me look like a gas station attendant.
11-I don't come home covered in sticky wing sauce.
12-They don't have side work.
13-They don't have booth busting.
14-I don't eat french fries all day.

This is why I don't:
I miss my girls... :(

autumn

Autumn is quickly becoming my new favorite season.
Thats a lie. Summer will forever rule in my book of favorites.
But if I had to choose a second favorite, Autumn would be it.
Why? because:
the days are still warm-
but just cold enough to wear cute sweaters
and for some reason, i love it when
leaves crunch under your feet.
